公民館の臨時休館が4/12(日)まで延長されることになりました。
よって、FMECは4/3(金)及び4/10(金)も中止となります。
現時点での次回学習会は4/17(金)です。
4/17(金)の開催も状況を注視しながらの判断となりますので、改めて皆様へご連絡致します。

また、今週末日曜日(29日)に予定されていたフレディさん主催のお花見も、船橋市からのお花見自粛要請を受けて中止が決定しています。

度々の中止となり心苦しい限りですが、何卒ご理解頂けましたら幸いです。

Today, I was informed that the temporary closure of all community centers in the City of Funabashi will be extended to April 12th, meaning our meeting will be cancelled on April 3rd and 10th.
As a result, our next meeting is provisionally scheduled for April 17th.
I’ll keep you updated as to whether or not FMEC meetings will be held on April 17th and onwards.

In addition, the Cherry Blossom Viewing Party, which was organised by Freddie and scheduled for the coming Sunday, will also be cancelled due to the official request by the City of Funabashi that the residents refrain from hosting and participating in HANAMI events in this season.

よって、3/13(金)も中止となります。
3/20(金)は祝日で、もともと公民館の休館日ですので、現時点での次回FMEC学習会は3/27(金)となります。

Today, it was announced that all the community centers in the City of Funabashi are temporarily closed from tomorrow to March 15th, meaning our meeting will be cancelled on Friday, March 13th.
March 20th is a national holiday, when community centers are normally unavailable.

昨日発表された国によるイベントの自粛要請を考慮し、今週2/28と次週3/6の学習会及び食事会を中止とさせて頂くことと致しました。
3/13以降の開催については、状況を注視しながら判断し、改めて皆様へご連絡致します。

I regret to say that the meetings and dinner parties scheduled on February 28th and March 6th will be cancelled due to the official request by the national government that the nation refrain from hosting big events during these 2 weeks.

2020.２.７　ビギナーコースマテリアル

Ileana: I’m really surprised. He’s usually more aggressive, but today he’s really defensive.
Gregory: Hmm, you’re right. I’ve never seen Wakatani like this.
Ileana: Maybe he’s trying something new, you know, shake things up?
Gregory: Seems to have blown up in his face.
Ileana: I wouldn’t say that. There are still a few matches left.

１月末になってから急に寒くなりましたね。風邪をひかないようお気を付けください。
今回は２つトピックを用意しました。
節分に関してと、最近興味のあることを話題にしました。Let’s begin!


1.英語で節分の説明をしてみましょう。


ヒント：豆まき　bean-throwing(scattering),立春の前日　The day before beginning of Spring
恵方巻：fortune sushi roll, 恵方：lucky direction


◎鬼は外、福は内、はなんといいますか？


ヒント：鬼：Devil, Goblin, Ogre(オウガ), Bad luck、福：Fortune, Happiness

◎Do you scatter beans at home ?



2.　What are you interested in lately? (最近関心のあることは何ですか？)


おすすめの本でも映画でも、はたまた新しく始めたこと始めたいこと、食べ物、病気、環境問題、なんでも結構です。
一人一つは英語で話してみましょう！


参考：Are you interested in = Are you into=Would you be interested in 興味ある？（＝Are you keen to know）
concern:関心、気遣い　Thanks for your concern（お気遣いありがとうございます）
keen to=eager ：○○したい。
keenには鋭いという意味もあります。keenという単語はあまりきーんたことがないので、Andyに使い方を聞いてみたいと思います
(イギリスでよく使われるらしいです）

1月24日　マテリアル学習：「好きな旅行先を英語で紹介しましょう！」

もう一月の下旬になりました。
まったく、時間がたつのは速いものです。
気が早い方は、今年の連休はどこへ行こうか、考えている方もいらっしゃるでしょう。

今週のミーティングでは、皆さんが好きな旅行先を、写真を使って他の参加者に語ってください。
国内でも海外でも、どちらでもかまいません。
スマホや携帯に、思い出の旅行の写真が一枚か二枚はあるでしょう。
一枚もない方は、相手の頭にパノラマが広がるくらい熱弁をふるってくださいね。
もちろん、英語ですよ？

では、今回のKey Questionsを紹介します。
旅行の話をすれば間違いなく尋ねられる質問ばかりです。
フリートークで他の人に訊いてみてください。
自分の答えを用意しておけば、相手にどう尋ねていけば会話がはずむか、ポイントもわかると思います。

　一番好きな場所（旅行先）はどこですか？

2. How long did you stay?
　どのくらい長く（日数）滞在しましたか？

　そこはどうでしたか？（その場所の様子や相手が受けた印象など）

1月17日　ビギナーコースマテリアル　今日は簡単な英文親しみましょう！

＜手相を占ってもらったAnneとJulianaがカフェでその結果について話しています。＞
Anne:　OK, so what did she say about your future?
Juliana:　Well, she told me that I would meet a tall, dark, and handsome guy when I least expect it.
Anne:　That’s exciting! Anything else?
Juliana:　Yeah, she also said that if I keep my nose to the grindstone, my boss will soon recognize me for my hard work. How about you?
Anne:　It was a bit weird. She told me that I should avoid elevators for at least two weeks.
Juliana:　Elevators? So you’ve been taking the stairs everywhere?
Anne:　Even at work! It’s driving me bananas.
Juliana:　It’s a good thing you only work on the fourth floor.
Anne:　Yeah. But there is an upside to the situation. I’ve already logged more steps this week in my fitness tracker than I did all last month!
Juliana:　Wow!


“WHEN (ONE) LEAST EXPECTS (SOMETHING)”　思いがけず
これはまったく予想していなかった出来事や起こりそうもないと思っていた出来事が起こった際に使われる表現で、“when least expected”と言っても
同じ意味になります。なお、好ましくない事柄について述べている文脈では、「最も起こってほしくないときに起こってしまう」という意味合いで
使われることもあります。

“KEEP (ONE’S) NOSE TO THE GRINDSTONE”　一生懸命に取り組み続ける
これは非常に懸命に働いたり、勉強をしたり、練習などに取り組むことを意味するフレーズです。長期間にわたりそうした努力を続けるという意味合い
を含んでいる表現です。

“DRIVE (SOMEONE) BANANAS”　～を気が狂いそうにさせる
腹が立ったり、苛立ったりして気が変になりそうな状況を言い表すフレーズです。かなりくだけた表現なので、友人などの親しい間柄以外では使い方に
注意が必要です。“bananas” の代わりに“nuts”や “bonkers”、“up a wall”などを用いても同じような意味で使うことができます。

“UPSIDE TO THE SITUATION”　～のよい面
一般に好ましくないと思われる状況が話題になっている場面で、そうした状況にもプラスの面があることを述べるために使われるフレーズです。反対に
好ましい状況にもマイナス面があることを言う際には“downside to～”という言い方をします。


Anne: それで、あなたの今後について何て言ってたの？
Juliana: それがね、背が高くて色黒のハンサムな人に思いもよらないときに出会うんだって、私。
Anne: それは素敵じゃない！他には？
Juliana: それから、一生懸命働き続けたら、いずれ上司が私の頑張りを認めてくれるとも言ってたわ。あなたは何て言われたの？
Anne: それがちょっと変な話なの。少なくとも2週間はエレベーターは避けたほうがいいって言われたの。
Juliana: エレベーター？じゃあ、どこに行っても階段使ってるの、あなた？
Anne: 職場でさえそうなのよ。気が変になりそうよ。
Juliana: 働いてるのが4階ぐらいでよかったじゃない。
Anne: そうね。でも、いいこともあるのよ。フィットネストラッカーの歩数が今週だけでもう先月の分を超えたのよ！
